My clinical duties involve the overall activity and performance of the Human In-Vitro Fertilization and Andrology Laboratory at the University of Florida College of Medicine (Shands Hospital). We support the infertility practice of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Approximately 120 patient couples seek the services of the IVF program per year. We perform all the assisted reproductive technology procedures to include: Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo assisted hatching, and embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).

My research activities take place in the Gamete Genetics Laboratory within the Department Obstetrics and Gynecology. We presently have IRB approval to conduct research on human material obtained from the IVF program. We utilize fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) to determine the chromosomal status of donated material. We are also interested in the function of human sperm and the maintenance of function under environmental stress conditions. We are evaluating mitochondrial activity and characteristic motility parameters through the use of antioxidant reagents and assessment of oxidative damage over time.
